Every time I have a killer meditation, I feel GREAT. I think to myself (By golly! I gotta do this way more regularly. I gotta make this a habit.) Then something will pop up and cause me to forget what I discovered.
They say once you become aware you can't become unaware. This feels true to me, and leads me to understand that after becoming aware of something in life, then it's a choice of what you do with that information and how it is apply it to life.
Maybe this is wrong, and how we understand and apply information that we gather is actually connected to the conditioning of the individual. Is interpretation and application something you can control? My argument is yes - the brain can be wired or re-wired with intentional practice, repetition, and "work."
If you don't like how your body looks because you're feeding it trash and you haven't been exercising your body to maintain a healthy functioning system, you can change that reality for yourself. You change the outcome (physical body) by changing the input (nutrition, exercise, sleep). Then... practice, work, and repeat over and over. [Note: This may be vastly over simplified for some, but for the majority, this is probably true.]
The body is as the mind is. Tired of feeling depressed, anxious, and lethargic? Zoom out on your life and take an honest look at your daily decisions. Who are spending most of your time with? How're you spending your time? What are you consuming regularly? There's no getting around that your body's health impacts the state of your mind.
This is where the concept of awareness comes in: Take the data you've collected on your life, your attitude, and see what subtle positive changes you can make. "Try things on for size," and notice the subtle improvement to your baseline daily mood. Practice that state of being. Remember how good the improvement feels, but don't attach to it. Try to just let it positively influence your next decision. Again, however minuscule the shift, positive change is occuring.
A big reason to not attach to the feeling is because you will certainly fluctuate. If we attach to the outcome, "good" or "bad," then it exacerbates that feeling. It's all just data and information to collect and apply as we want.
Try different things on for size! See how they fit :) Regardless of what you do with the information you gain about yourself, awareness is helpful. With awareness, you are empowered to make change or practice deeper self-acceptance.
Some things to notice about yourself:
How do you choose to spend your time? (E.g. note how long you scroll through your phone or mindlessly watch TV)
When an uncomfy emotion might need to rise up, do any urges or cravings pop up?
When you make a mistake, what does your inner voice like to say to you?
Which inner voice talks to you when your in distress?
Which inner voice talks to you when your having a really great day?
When you're still, where do you thoughts like to drift?
What do you daydream about?
Maybe we can shift how we're experiencing this phase of life right now. Can we lean deeper into gratitude for how things are now, even as we are growing and changing for the better? Even when life feels really hard, gratitude can also exist. Multiple things can be true at the same time. We can learn to love life a little more and find the little things that bring a spark to our own little world.
What I want to remember from today's meditation:
How you structure your day is in your hands.
How you spend your time before and after work is up to you.
What you eat and don't eat is your choice.
No one in your life cares what you do or don't do, they care that you are happy with your choices.
You can build whatever routine feels the best for you.
Dreaming is safe, and so is following through.
Dream up the life you want and build it one day at a time.
Meditation is the key to freedom.
That's all from me today, folks. Some cool thoughts for me to experience and write about. Nice feeling of awareness and tasty intentions to practice what I will remember from today.
Peace out!
